At Ebony Sonshine, Inc., we believe the most powerful stage is the one we build within our community. Our outreach programs are designed to meet children and youth where they are—in schools, community centers, and local neighborhoods—to provide the tools they need for a successful future.

The heart of our community engagement is the Ebony Sonshine Inc. Outreach Educational Theater. We use the unique power of vivid and vocal expression to deliver life-changing messages through the performing arts:

• Peer-to-Peer Education: We train youth as peer educators to lead theatrical workshops addressing critical issues such as health and safety, conflict resolution, and character education.
• Creative Problem Solving: Utilizing Expressive Thinking, our theater programs encourage youth to co-create stories that tackle social challenges, fostering empathy and resilience.
• Cultural & Social Awareness: From Black History programs to holiday specials, our theater serves as a platform for cultural storytelling that educates and delights audiences of all ages.

 

Hands-On Community Service: Action Beyond the Stage

We are not only serving the community through the performing arts; we are moving into active services to make a tangible difference. Action Beyond the Stage is a whole-organization initiative, allowing all Ebony Sonshine, Inc. participants to use their leadership skills to support local needs. This collaborative environment allows our youth and their families to build empathy and provide real-world support:

• Compassion Projects: Creating encouragement cards for seniors and care packages for patients during our visits to nursing homes and hospitals.
• Community Drives: Organizing food and clothing collections in conjunction with our events to support local shelters.
• Environmental Stewardship: Leading park clean-ups and neighborhood beautification projects that reinforce themes of responsibility and care.
• Peer-to-Peer Mentoring: Allowing participants from every department to use their leadership skills to tutor and support their younger peers in a collaborative environment.
